Cover shows strong gloss and vibrant color with sharp corners and no visible creasing or spine stress; the Spider-Man head box in place of a UPC barcode confirms this is the direct edition. A few faint surface scuffs and light handling marks are visible near the left edge and lower left corner, and the book is in a protective sleeve which slightly obscures fine surface detail. Interior pages and back cover were not assessed, so grade could shift with full inspection.

Avengers #228 continues Roger Stern's early-1980s run on the title, opening the court-martial storyline for Hank Pym following the events that led to his disgrace within the team. Al Milgrom provides both pencils and cover, inked by Brett Breeding, with Christie Scheele on colors. The issue features an ensemble Avengers roster including Captain America, Iron Man, and Hawkeye, alongside supporting cast such as Bambi Arbogast and villains Egghead, Moonstone, and Magna Mind, and includes an early appearance of Monica Rambeau, who would shortly go on to become Captain Marvel in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 the same year.
The book's market profile reflects a well-collected but non-key Bronze Age Avengers issue: certified 9.8 copies bring modest but steady returns, while mid and lower grades see thin trading and negligible raw demand, consistent with a title driven primarily by series completists rather than first-appearance or key-issue speculation. The census shows healthy representation at the top end (36 copies at 9.8) against a small tail of lower grades, indicating most surviving copies were preserved in high grade from the outset rather than heavily read and downgraded over time.
This issue suits Avengers run-builders and Bronze Age completists assembling the Stern/Milgrom stretch of the title, with most collector interest concentrated on pristine CGC 9.8 slabs rather than raw copies. Mid- and low-grade examples trade as inexpensive filler for readers and long-box collectors, while investment-oriented buyers will find little upside outside the top census grade.
