// Condition analysis
Cover shows moderate edge and corner wear with some minor chipping at the top and bottom right corners, a small stress mark near the spine, and slight color break along the top edge. There is a small tear/split visible at the bottom edge near the staple, and general handling wear including light surface scuffing. The book is housed in a protective sleeve which limits full assessment; interior pages and back cover were not visible in this photo, so grading is based solely on the front cover.

// Archive commentary
Fantastic Four #81 arrived in December 1968 during the closing stretch of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's celebrated run on the title, inked by Joe Sinnott. The issue continues a loose subplot from FF #80 in which the Wizard, Sandman, and Trapster pursue the mysterious cocoon left behind after the events surrounding Him (the being who would later be reworked into Adam Warlock), while the shadowy operative called Monocle competes for the prize. There is no first appearance of consequence here, but the issue is squarely part of the celebrated late-1960s Kirby FF stretch and carries connective value for readers tracing the Warlock mythos back to its earliest seeds.
Market activity tracks the profile of a well-collected but non-key mid-run Silver Age Marvel: steady turnover across mid and high grades, with several hundred CGC Universal copies on census and healthy sales counts through 9.4 and 9.6. Demand is driven primarily by Kirby/Sinnott art quality and completist collecting of the Fantastic Four run rather than any single landmark event, which keeps values modest in low and mid grades while still supporting a meaningful premium at the top of the census where high-grade survivors are comparatively scarce.
This is a book collectors add while building a run rather than chase individually, making it a steady if unspectacular seller across most grade tiers. Entry-level and mid-grade copies move readily to Fantastic Four run-builders and Kirby-era completists, while pristine 9.6 and especially 9.8 copies attract a smaller pool of high-grade Silver Age specialists willing to pay a real premium for census-topping condition given how few such copies exist.
