// Condition analysis
Cover shows strong gloss and bright, unfaded colors with sharp corners and no visible creases or tears. There is minor surface handling wear and a couple of small marks/scuffs near the top edge and along the top logo area, plus faint pencil-like scribbles visible in the black background art. Spine appears mostly tight with no obvious stress lines or color break visible in this photo. Interior and back cover were not assessed, and the book is in a protective sleeve which may obscure fine surface defects.

Marvel Tales #79, cover-dated May 1977, is part of Marvel's long-running reprint anthology that recycled classic Amazing Spider-Man stories for a new generation of readers at a lower price point than the flagship title. By this point in the series' run, Marvel Tales had worked its way into the early Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn era of Amazing Spider-Man, reprinting material originally written by Stan Lee with art credited to Steve Ditko during the character's foundational transitional period. The issue features Spider-Man alongside Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, Norman Osborn, J. Jonah Jameson, and Robbie Robertson, placing it within the stretch of stories that expanded Peter Parker's supporting cast beyond the original Ditko-era circle.
As a newsstand reprint issue, this book was produced in high volume and distributed widely, and it has never carried premium value in the secondary market; the absence of a published fair-market figure reflects a book that trades near cover price rather than one overlooked by collectors. Demand for Marvel Tales issues is generally driven by readers seeking affordable access to early Spider-Man stories rather than by investment-grade collecting, and pricing across grades stays compressed as a result. Even sharp, high-grade certified copies see only modest premiums, since the collector base values the original Amazing Spider-Man issues these stories first appeared in far more than the reprint vehicle.
This is a book for completists of the Marvel Tales reprint line, budget-minded Spider-Man readers, and dealers filling out Bronze Age long boxes rather than a piece pursued by key-issue collectors. Raw copies in any condition remain inexpensive and plentiful, and even a pristine slabbed example is unlikely to command significant attention outside of niche reprint-title collecting circles. It is best regarded as an accessible, affordable way to read early Spider-Man/Gwen Stacy-era material rather than as a piece with independent collectible standing.
