Cover shows strong gloss and bright yellow color with no visible fading. Corners appear sharp with only minor wear at the bottom left tip; there is slight surface handling wear near the spine but no distinct stress lines or color breaks visible. The book is protected in a plastic sleeve, which limits visibility of fine surface scuffing. Interior pages and back cover were not assessed.

Marvel Tales #98 is part of Marvel's long-running black-and-white-interior, color-cover reprint line that recycled the Silver Age Amazing Spider-Man run for a new generation of newsstand readers. By this point in the numbering, the title had reached the celebrated Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. stretch of Amazing Spider-Man in which Norman Osborn is unmasked as the Green Goblin, one of the defining plot turns of the early Spider-Man mythos. The issue carries no new first appearance of its own, but it preserves and recirculates that story for collectors who want an affordable reading copy of the arc.
Market behavior tracks what is typical for Bronze Age Marvel Tales issues: modest demand concentrated almost entirely at the top of the grading scale, where a handful of pristine 9.8 and 9.6 census copies command a real premium over the broad, flat middle of the grading curve. Mid- and low-grade copies see limited sales activity and trade close to cover price plus a small reprint-title premium, reflecting a large surviving population and a readership market rather than a speculative one. The recent uptick in 9.8 twelve-month averages suggests modest but real interest from Spider-Man completists and Romita-era collectors chasing high-grade filler for full-run sets.
This is a book for series and character completists rather than key-issue speculators — Spider-Man collectors rounding out Marvel Tales runs, Romita art fans, and buyers priced out of the original Amazing Spider-Man Green Goblin issues who want the story at a fraction of the cost. Raw copies in low and mid grade are inexpensive and plentiful, useful as reading or filler copies, while CGC 9.8 examples are scarce enough on census to draw sustained premium bidding whenever they surface.
