Cover shows strong gloss and bright, unfaded red coloring with sharp corners and no visible creases or tears. There is minor edge wear at the top and slight softness at the bottom left corner, and a faint diagonal crease line appears near the barcode box. Spine appears mostly tight with no obvious color break or major stress lines visible in this photo. Interior and back cover were not assessed, so grade is based solely on the visible front cover.

Marvel Tales #106, cover-dated August 1979, is part of Marvel's long-running reprint anthology that recycled classic Amazing Spider-Man stories for a new generation of newsstand readers. This issue reprints Amazing Spider-Man #101 (October 1971), the landmark Stan Lee/Gil Kane story in which a failed experiment leaves Peter Parker with four extra arms and introduces Dr. Michael Morbius, the Living Vampire, in his first-ever appearance. While Marvel Tales #106 carries no first-appearance status of its own, the strength of the underlying story gives the reprint unusual staying power among Spider-Man and Morbius completists who want an affordable alternative to the much costlier original issue.
The certified population is substantial, with 557 universal copies recorded across 621 total graded, reflecting steady long-term collector interest in the title rather than scarcity-driven demand. Pricing is largely flat through the mid grades, with 5.5 through 8 all clustering near $60–$95, before climbing sharply at 9.4 and above, culminating in a $550 FMV at 9.8. This curve shape is typical of a well-collected but non-key Bronze Age reprint: the story content sustains a base level of demand across all grades, while true scarcity value only emerges at the top of the census where clean, unrestored newsstand copies become genuinely hard to find.
This is a book bought primarily by Spider-Man and horror-character completists building out Morbius's early appearances on a budget, as well as by Marvel Tales collectors assembling the full reprint run. Raw copies in low and mid grades trade as inexpensive filler, rarely commanding premiums beyond condition, while CGC 9.8 examples see meaningful competition given how few pristine newsstand copies of any 1979 Marvel Tales issue survive. It remains a support-tier acquisition for dealers rather than a marquee lot, valuable chiefly as an accessible entry point into the Morbius origin story.
